Autumn in Lorton, Virginia area”

Reviewed November 13, 2011

We stayed overnight at this wonderful hotel which is located close to the Amtrak AutoTrain -- a convenient and easy way to get to Florida with the train carrying the automobile. The hotel was very nice and the staff was helpful. Quiet, peaceful rooms. A business center provides access to a computer and internet. There is an outdoor pool during the season and a small gym with treadmill. Full, complete, delicious breakfast featuring waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, cereal, pastries, juices, hot coffee. Within walking distance we found small fast food type restaurants. Chinese restaurant nearby does deliver.

 “Home away from home”

As a frequent traveler in the Washington D.C. area I'm always on the lookout for clean accommodations with friendly staff. The Comfort Inn at Gunston Corner covers all that and more. From the friendly front desk staff to the complimentary breakfast and the clean, comfortable rooms this property is the place to stay.

“Solid mid-range; relatively pricey, but excellent for the AutoTrain”

Date of review: Mar 21, 2011

This is a well-maintained, clean, midrange property, a good example of a well-run Comfort Inn & Suites. It is so close to the Amtrak Auto-Train station you could walk it! So for those whose main goal is an easy trip to the AutoTrain, this will do very nicely. Front-desk personnel were pleasant and and check-in was efficient. Our bedroom was very quiet; we heard neither other guests in the halls or in their rooms, and despite the property being very close to I-95 (and our room facing that road,) we were not bothered by traffic noise at all. Linens and bedding were to a good standard.

I generally think of Comfort Inns as being to just a bit lower standard than Hampton Inns, Holiday Inn Express, Fairfield Inn, etc., but this property was pretty much to the same standard. as a good example of one of those mid-range properties. It's hard to judge just how fairly-priced (vs. over-priced,) it is because just a few miles closer to Washington, DC, accommodation prices begin to soar, and this is the very closest to the AutoTrain. You could save some bucks by staying another 15 minutes south of this property, but most of those properties are more "economy" range properties.

Wired broadband in our room was fast and worked well with no glitches.

So, I'd give it a "3 1/2 out of 5" and round up to a 4 if the shortest drive to the AutoTrain the next morning were very important; on the other hand, if price were particularly important, I'd round down to a 3. For us, the final score was 4.

“Comfortable, Clean and Quiet”

Date of review: Mar 19, 2011

We recently stayed at the Comfort Inn while visiting family in Lorton. This hotel is the only one in town, so I was a little concerned. But I had no reason to worry. The hotel was extremely clean, the beds were very comfortable and the rooms were quiet. Our visit spanned Thursday-Monday. Thursday and Sunday nights were quiet in the hotel. Over the weekend, the hotel filled with teenage sports teams and wedding guests. Despite all the people in the hotel, our room remained very quiet. We never heard any other guests, except for an occasional shutting door or conversation in the hallway (normal hotel noises).

The breakfast room got very crowded on Saturday and Sunday mornings. But the hotel provided overflow rooms for seating, so we were still able to find a place to sit. On our last day, we arrived at the end of breakfast. There was a nice woman making waffles. She made sure that our kids had waffles before cleaning up. My only complaint was the coffee was cold by the time we arrived. It must have been made early in the morning and without a lot of guests, no fresh was made. That was our fault for sleeping in. Our room also had a coffee maker, so we could have used that if needed.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the area. The hotel is very close to the Amtrak station, a short drive into DC and Alexandria or to Mount Vernon and the rivertown of Occoquan.

“Would recommend it to senior citizens who are goinhg on the auto train.”

Date of review: Feb 10, 2011

This is the first time my father has gone to Florida without my mother (
deceased for a year) Our family decided he should take the auto train. The Comfort Inn in Gunston Corner really makes sure that all the seniors are well tended to. I was impressed with Dixie Eng because she made sure the morning he was to leave and I needed the shuttle to the Metro we where able to make our connects. It happened to snow/rain the night before and it took over an hour to get the van out to bring me to the Metro and she personally made sure my father was taken care of and made his connect to the auto train. All the staff were helpful and I will be returning to pick my father up when he comes home from Florida. Being a female I will be returning by myself and have no fear of staying there. I look forward to see all the help and friendly people.

"The Best hotel I have ever stayed in, hands down"

Date of review: Jan 28, 2011

From the moment we walked through the front doors, until we checked out, we received unsurpassed guest services from a team of staff who were genuine, who obviously enjoy what they are doing--they really care. We got into town late, and were very pleasantly surprised to be greeted so friendly and welcoming by the overnight clerk. Felt like he was welcoming us home. When we go to our room, it was everything he said it would be, and then some. Never been in such a clean hotel, and we were shocked to find out the age of the hotel, because it seemed brand new! Everything was spotless. Expecting a "typical" hotel continental breakfast, again we were surprised by the great spread put on in the morning. A full hot buffet breakfast, with this outstanding breakfast attendant who was on top of everything.

My wife and I travel around frequently enough and have stayed in many hotels, having some very bad experiences, and some very good ones as well, but this Comfort Inn far out did any others we have stayed in before.

Kudos to the staff and management for a job VERY well done!
